In this paper, the authors approach the in-situ measurement of the surface impedance in diffuse fields, referred to as EAnoise. In-situ measurements are versatile and non-destructive. The EAnoise method considers the background or incoherent noise as the excitation signal, which makes the method independent of a standardized sound source. The EAnoise method measures and processes the Frequency Response Function between two microphones close to the sample. A straightforward inversion is used to estimate the surface impedance is simple. In addition, it enables the use of low-cost instrumentation, which is investigated in this paper. The method’s repeatability is assessed in measurements of a glass wool acoustic panel, investigating the influence of two sources located in two rooms with different volumes. A resonant absorber was also measured, and the absorption coefficient is compared to the estimations calculated by the transfer matrix method.
