Noise pollution is a public health problem that often goes unnoticed by people, but it has an effect on their health and well-being. Important factors for sustainable development within cities and desired goal in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Thus, noise complaints can be an indication of annoyance in the urban environment and help to plan actions to mitigate this problem. In João Pessoa, the Municipal Secretary of the Environment (SEMAM) carries out the inspection of complaints related to environmental pollution. In this context, the objective was to characterize the profile of noise pollution in the city of João Pessoa-PB. The research, characterized as documentary, was carried out by collecting information from SEMAM about the complaints received by the sector in the year 2019. The variables analyzed were number of complaints, sound sources and actions carried out in the inspection. For data organization, spatial distribution and frequency calculation, Excel, ArcMap and SPSS programs were used, respectively. The results showed the occurrence of 2877 complaints, highlighting the Mangabeira neighborhood with the highest percentage, followed by Manaíra and Bessa. The Bars, restaurants and party houses give rise to the prevalence of complaints, and there is also a significant frequency for residences and sound walls. There are numerous inspection actions: deactivating the sound source, notification, verification of the license to operate, embargo, assessment, among others. It is common to turn off the sound source or correct the sound pressure levels to the permitted limits and there are few cases that are not resolved. It can be seen, then, that the complaints are relevant to characterize the environmental noise in the city, they identify the neighborhoods with the highest percentage, the main sound sources and their recurrence, being able to direct possible intervention. The spatialization of data also proves to be a useful tool for public management and that helps in the characterization of environmental noise.
